Gradus lights up the silver screen at Chester’s Storyhouse
Storyhouse is Chester’s brand new £37m cultural centre. Having restored and revitalised the old 1930’s Chester Odeon building, a Grade 2 listed structure that has been empty since 2007, the building now houses an 800-seat auditorium, a 200-seat studio theatre, a restaurant, two bars and a 100-seat boutique cinema.
As part of the renovation, Gradus ATD71L stair edgings, incorporating the Interlok Advance LED lighting system in White, were installed in the theatres and cinema to create a pinpoint lighting effect across each step. This enhances the safety of the building by providing a clear, defined edge for users ascending and descending the staircase in low light conditions.
Nancy Davies, Marketing and PR Manager for Storyhouse, commented: “We needed an LED lighting solution that complemented the modern, stylish appearance of the refurbished building interior, but still ensured a safe and inclusive environment. Gradus ensured that the products selected matched our requirements and worked with us to produce a fantastic end result.”
ATD71L stair edgings comprise hardwearing, aluminium channels with a 6mm gauge, and incorporate PVC-u tubes that house the LED lighting and clip securely into the channels. The lighting system is finished with end caps ensuring all cables are hidden, providing a neat finish.
Lynette Bowden, Group Product Manager at Gradus, said: “Due to the low ambient light conditions in Storyhouse, an illuminated stair edging was required to ensure the steps remains visible when overhead lighting is dimmed or off. The ATD71L illuminated stair edging specified provides safe access for the public and helps prevent slips, trips and falls.”
