GRADUS ADDS SAFETY AND STYLE TO NEW CITY CENTRE APARTMENTS
Gradus Accessories’ innovative XT stair edgings have added safety and style to a new development of luxury city centre apartments in a fashionable district of Aberdeen.
The Citigait housing development by Barratt Homes, which consists of high specification two bed apartments and four bed duplexes, offers homeowners the full luxury package, including a residents only fitness suite, weekday concierge service and high quality fixtures and fittings. Located next to the River Dee in a lively, up and coming area of the city, the development has already proved popular with aspirational homebuyers.
Gradus XT stair edgings were fitted throughout the apartment blocks on the staircases leading from the main entrances to the residential areas, providing superior safety by reducing the risk of slips, trips and falls. As well as complementing the modern décor of the internal stairwells, Dove (grey) inserts were chosen to provide a visible contrast with the floorcovering. Defining the step edge in this way helps to create a safer environment in line with the guidelines in Approved Document M (ADM) of The Building Regulations 2000.
The pioneering XT range, which has been developed in line with the latest recommendations from BRE, features slip-resistant inserts that extend around the leading edge of the step, ensuring optimum foot contact is made with the slip-resistant material. Suitable for interior environments, the XT inserts are fixed using a new and improved adhesive bond and are secured with a locking mechanism.
Contractor Scott Milne of General and Technical in Aberdeen comments: “As modern apartment developments become increasingly popular, it is crucial that developers recognise the importance of safety on shared access stairwells. The XT range not only offers colour contrast but its well designed insert provides high levels of safety for environments such as this, where there is likely to be a reasonable amount of foot traffic.”
Lynette Bowden, Marketing Manager for Gradus Accessories, adds: “Safety is a crucial aspect of all our products. The inclusion of Gradus stair edgings at this luxury development demonstrates how they can be incorporated into modern, stylish design schemes, to create a safe environment and provide peace of mind at the same time.”
The XT range incorporates both mill finished and anodised aluminium channels, with 55mm treads and 40mm or 55mm risers available, in line with the guidance in ADM of The Building Regulations 2000. The range is available with a choice of 11 coloured inserts, designed to offer visual contrast with surrounding floorcoverings, and includes profiles suitable for use on square, rake back or bullnose step shapes.
