GRADUS LIGHTING HELPS TO CREATE A BRIGHT FUTURE FOR
Lighting design solutions provider Gradus has designed and installed a unique lighting effects scheme to enhance the aesthetics and functionality of the state-of-the-art new Media Factory at the University of Central Lancashire (UCLan).
Working closely with university staff, builders Rok and architect Craig Gill, Gradus designed, commissioned and installed LED colour changing lights, floodlights, linear fittings and spotlights in the impressive building’s walkways and central corridor, which is open to four floors and forms the hub of the new £15million development.
The lighting scheme was designed to complement the ultra-modern Media Factory, which formally opened in January 2008 and includes industry-standard television production, dance and photographic studios. To provide the facilities and ambience of a real life studio, Gradus installed numerous scene selections that students can adjust, using a dmx control lighting system.
With some fittings positioned at heights of more than 10 metres, Gradus recommended a combination of 12 and 36watt LED lights for use throughout the Media Factory. LED lights were an ideal option, as they are robust and hardwearing, requiring minimal maintenance and replacement, as well as offering the aesthetic flexibility required by such a creative environment.
Having seen the project through from design to completion, Rory Marr of Gradus Lighting comments: “Offering a full lighting design solution and being involved in the project every step of the way, means that we are able to react quickly to any issues that may occur. In this instance, we were able to turnaround specially designed bracket systems in five days, enabling the project to be finished within the tight time schedule. The experience and level of support we offer our clients is repeated throughout the Gradus business. Although architect Craig Gill did not have previous experience with the Gradus lighting division, his confidence in the Gradus brand was one of the main reasons for using our services.”
The LED lights installed at the Media Factory have low energy consumption, enabling the university to meet with environmental quotas as well as reducing electricity costs.
