Sustainable Carpet Prescribed for New Health Centre
An exceptionally hardwearing carpet with a strong sustainability story from contract interiors specialist Gradus has been installed throughout the new Finch Road Health Centre in Birmingham, providing a welcoming and attractive environment for patients and staff.
Adventurer was fitted in the corridors, reception area, lecture theatre and consulting and assessment rooms of the new primary care centre, which provides healthcare services for residents within the Lozells area of the city and forms part of the Heart of Birmingham Primary Care Trust (PCT). Designed by One Creative Environments, a leading architect in the healthcare sector, the new-build forms part of the Towards 2010 initiative, which aims to improve healthcare provision in the Sandwell and West Birmingham areas.
Specified in a neutral Sandstone shade, the carpet contributes to the modern, relaxed atmosphere of the centre, whilst the choice of fully recyclable PVC backing enhances the building’s sustainability credentials.
Ideal for healthcare environments, Adventurer’s unique yarn structure and system provides a performance guarantee of 20 years. The carpet is available with a choice of backing options in addition to PVC, including impervious, bitumen and a unique 100% recycled ER3 backing, which extends the carpet’s warranty to 25 years, thanks to its special bonding system, which significantly increases its lifespan.
Adventurer is particularly suited to busy environments requiring a hardwearing surface to withstand constant pressure from foot and wheeled traffic, without compromising on aesthetics.
Tom Marlow of One Creative Environments comments: “Having previously specified Adventurer, it was an obvious choice for this project, in light of the carpet’s durability and low maintenance requirements. Adventurer is exceptionally hardwearing and long-lasting, which prolongs the floorcovering’s lifespan to significantly reduce repair and replacement costs.”
Pamela Cairns, Marketing Manager for Gradus Floorcoverings, adds: “PVC backed Adventurer can be fully recycled and the recyclate is then used to manufacture the ER3 backing, further reducing the impact on landfill. Its unique environmental properties make it a strong choice for public sector specifiers working on healthcare projects, as many NHS Trusts are increasingly concerned with sustainability credentials.”
Available in broadloom or carpet tile in 12 colourways, Adventurer has the design flexibility to be used in a variety of applications.
Gradus offers a comprehensive range of floorcoverings, including cork flooring, barrier matting, random lay carpet tiles, loose lay vinyl and printed, polypropylene and nylon carpets.
