GRADUS ENTRANCE MATTING AND CLEAN HOSPITALS
The hygiene and cleanliness of our hospitals has been top of the healthcare agenda again over the past few months. But healthcare teams across the country from procurement and design teams through to facility managers and ward sisters are hitting dirt where it hurts with simple building product materials.
Entrance matting continues to be one of the number one dirt management systems to be specified by hospitals and care environments alike to help reduce the levels of dirt and moisture being carried into interior environments, thereby increasing levels of hygiene within the facility.
More than 70% of all dirt and moisture carried into buildings is tracked in by pedestrian and wheeled traffic and yet the use of an effective matting system can reduce the amount of dirt and moisture walked into a building by up to 90%.
As part of a £40 million modernisation scheme, Royal Preston Hospital recently specified Gradus Esplanade Plus entrance matting for a series of entrance requirements on its estate. Looking to address hygiene issues and help extend lifecycle costings, Royal Preston Hospital selected Esplanade Plus for the entrance areas of the new, purpose built facilities for its elderly rehabilitation, maternity and gynaecology services, which were relocating from an alternative site.
Esplanade Plus is a heavy-duty primary entrance mat that Gradus categorises as a high traffic solution. Manufactured to cope in excess of 5000 people per day and suitable for most types of trolley traffic from pushchairs to castor wheel beds it was the perfect solution for Royal Preston Hospital.
Made up of aluminium scrapers with 100% Rhodia solution dyed nylon wipers, the dual system is ideal for optimum soil and moisture removal and retention. It also offers a flexible PVC hinge allowing easy handling on site for contractors and compensates for any minor undulations in the flooring.
Esplanade Plus is available in a range of colours and Royal Preston Hospital utilised the variety available to coordinate the entrance matting systems with the surrounding colour schemes of the interiors. Rather than opt for a customary shade of grey, Preston Hospital opted for shades of Indigo, Cappuccino and Cabernet.
Commenting on role matting can play in healthcare environments, Kath Bennett, product manager for Gradus entrance matting said: “There is an abundance of choice for specifiers these days, where an extensive range of materials, design capabilities and colours can be selected to suit any performance or décor requirement. Function and aesthetics really can go hand in hand when in comes to today’s entrance matting solutions and they offer the perfect solution to healthcare environments where both are of equal importance”.
