Whitby, a seaside town in North Yorkshire, houses a population of approximately 14,000 residents, all serviced by the Whitby Community Hospital. This hospital provides inpatient, outpatient and community services to the town of Whitby and its surrounding areas.
As part of the Government’s ProCure22 project, a selection of Gradus Wall Protection systems, alongside Gerflor flooring, were specified for the hospital.
Within a hospital building, corners are one of the most vulnerable areas of the building, as they are susceptible to the most damage, caused by both pedestrian and wheeled traffic. Gradus supplied PVC-u Corner Guards to protect these corners, while reducing long-term maintenance costs and to also help maintain the appearance of the building interior.
Gradus provided SureProtect Endure wall cladding at half height in the corridor and circulation areas, proving a cost-effective way of reducing operational cleaning costs while protecting the walls from everyday damage.
As part of the package, Gradus also supplied a Combination Rail – a handrail and a wall guard rolled into a single profile. This not only offers wall protection against impacts, but also provides essential support and wayfinding for pedestrians. Gradus Stairtile has also been installed onto the external steps, creating a safer environment and protecting against slips, trips and falls by providing a clear visual contrast between the step and the edge.
Over 7000m2 of Gerflor flooring was laid down at Whitby Hospital, including their world-class Taralay, Tarasafe and Taraflex ranges. Extremely hardwearing and hygienic, these ranges are easy to clean and available in contemporary colours and designs.
