We supplied our Esplanade 8500 barrier matting system for use in a prestigious new office block in the centre of Bristol, where it will protect the interior from dirt and moisture, reducing the risk of slips and maintain the high aesthetic values of the building.
Constructed by Lancer Scott, Castlemead, at 80-metres, is the tallest office building in Bristol. Its 18 floors host high-quality open-plan offices that provide a range of businesses with panoramic views of the city and nearby Castle Park.
Terry Mann, Senior Building Manager at Knight Frank, which manages the building, comments: “What we needed was a matting solution for the entrance that would first and foremost protect the inside of the building, stopping dirt from spoiling the floorcoverings, but also play an important role in the aesthetic impression that the building makes when you enter it.
“When we sat down with the Gradus team, they quickly understood exactly what we were after, asking lots of questions and helping us to draw up a plan that we were happy with.”
The bespoke Esplanade 8500 primary barrier matting system covers 60m² of the building’s internal entrance area. Constructed from single rubber wipers and 18mm aluminium scraper linking strips held together with galvanised steel wires, it offers outstanding protection against everyday contaminants that would otherwise be tracked into the building on the shoes of people walking inside.
Equally important is the colour-scheme of the solution. It has been specified in ‘Silver Aluminium’ with grey wipers, enabling it to fit in seamlessly with the light-coloured tiles and furnishings and gold feature wall of the building’s lobby.
“The Gradus matting met every need we had, offering great protection and working beautifully with the overall interior design,” concludes Terry. “We’re delighted with the end-solution, and also with the excellent service Gradus provided for us.”
Mitch Zanetti, Key Account Manager at Gradus, comments: “This was a prestige project in the centre of Bristol, so we knew that both performance and style were going to be key. As with any client, we worked closely with Knight Frank to understand what the perfect solution would be for their needs. That meant discussing both the amount and type of footfall they expected the building to receive, and also the wider design scheme and how it should integrate with that.
“It was great to come up with a solution that the client was happy with, as this is our aim on every project.”
